Stormy February

February temperatures so far have been mild with only the occasional frosty morning however Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis have been and gone battering the country with at times 60mph+ winds and heavy rainfall.
Let’s hope this year’s weather is more ‘average’ unlike weather seen in 2019!
With the strong winds the land is starting to dry out slowly (when the rain disappears!), we have been able to catch up with delayed ploughing and sub-soiling which is normally completed in October/November.
We need the rain to stop to allow the land to continue to dry as we are only 2-3 weeks away from planting new season crops.
When the weather allows, and the machinery can enter the fields we are still enduring to lift the remaining Potatoes left in the ground. These have normally all been lifted in November however thankfully we have had no seriously cold weather which would have frozen the crop.
Cornwall Cauliflower harvesting will be finished in roughly 3 weeks and then Lincolnshire crops will be ready to start harvesting.
This month we will say goodbye to our Lincolnshire-grown Brussels Sprouts are the UK season comes to a finish at the end of February until the 2020-21 harvesting commences later in the year!
Purple Sprouting Broccoli is coming into its natural season with good volumes and quality seen in the crop. PSB can be served in a range of dishes including salads, sides, stir-fries and pasta dishes. When in season this fresh and vibrant brassica is the perfect accompaniment to Roast dinners too!
